      INSTRUCTIONS

          SUBMISSION
          Project 01 - Exercise 1 (Audio Dubbing)
In this exercise, we are required to download the sync the required audio in Premiere Pro (Speech & Sound effects only, no music). The original video uses no sound picked from the film "Everything Everywhere All At Once".

The mixing of sound elements below creates an audio setting that supports the action and engages the spectators.
          1. Dialogue: Record with phone.
          2. Sound Effects: Find online
However, music is not required for this exercise.

We are required to do these before the Week 4 class:
          1. Watch the video on the Premiere Pro timeline
          2. List down each scene on a spreadsheet
          3. List out each sound effects for each scene
          4. Record dialogue with phone, and search sound effects online.
          Requirements:
          • Place audio files on the timeline, and sync them with video.
          • Dialogue Audio Track: 3 tracks, one character one track (volume between -6dB and -12dB)
          • Sound Effect Audio Track: 4 tracks (volume depends on every scene)
          • Ambience Audio Track: 3 tracks (volume below -20dB)
          • Edit voice from female to male, male to female, human to cute animal/adult to kid: Premiere Pro → Audio Effects → Pitch Shifter → Semi tones.

          Spreadsheet
First of all, we had to review the original film again and again to list down all the dialogue and sound effects in the spreadsheet, we did this in a group in week 3 of class. After that, we are asked to search for the sound effects online and place the audio link also into the sheet.

          Editing
This is my first time using Adobe Premiere Pro to adjust audio, and I found it a bit challenging at first. However, I felt more comfortable when placing the audio into the video, as it was quite similar to the exercises we did previously.
          Figure 1.4 Video Editing

Since we need to record our own sound for the dialogue, and there are three different characters in this video—Waymond (a man), Evelyn (a woman), and Deirdre (an old woman)—I need to adjust my voice to match each character's tone. I will do this by following the tutorial provided by our lecturer.

This is my final work. I first asked our lecturer for feedback and suggestions. He mentioned that my "pitch filter" might not be clear enough. Based on his advice, I decided to adjust the semitone to -3, which improved the clarity.

          Project 01 - Exercise 2 (Sound Shaping)
In the second exercise in this task, we are required to record our own voice for 5 seconds for the submission.

          Requirements:
We need to apply the sound effects for the recorded voice in different environments. The progress will be done using Adobe Audition. These different sound effects have been required:
          1. Voice of phone call.
          2. Voice coming from inside of the closet.
          3. Voice of toilet/bathroom.
          4. Underground cave.
          5. Alien/ Orc voice

I was thrilled and a little apprehensive when I started using Adobe Audition for the first time. I had heard that it could be challenging to use. However, our lecturer came to the rescue with a comprehensive step-by-step tutorial during our class. I must say, after going through the tutorial, I realized that using Adobe Audition is much easier than I initially anticipated. Our lecturer even provided us with tutorial slides to help us complete the exercise successfully. I'm grateful for the guidance and resources that made this learning experience more accessible and enjoyable.

Exploring different sound effects and adjusting them was an enjoyable experience for me. Among all the intriguing options, I found the alien sound effects particularly fascinating. I had the opportunity to experiment with various unusual sound effects, but for the final submission, I carefully selected the one that I mostly preferred.

In comparing the cave effect and toilet effect, I noticed that the key distinction lies in the wet and dry output levels. I have visually represented this disparity in the accompanying figure, highlighting the varying levels of moisture and dryness in each effect.

                                                Exercise 1 (Audio Dubbing Exercise)
                                                • This was my first time editing audio using Adobe Premiere Pro, and it was a great experience. Initially, I found it challenging to work with the audio effects, especially adjusting semitones. However, after watching a tutorial on YouTube and also following the tutorial provided by our lecturer, I managed to complete it successfully. The most interesting part of this exercise was recording our own sounds for the dialogue section, which was quite amusing during the editing process. This exercise taught me a lot, I had never watched a video so closely before. I discovered that films contain numerous sound effects, which made me realize the complexities involved in film production.
                                                Exercise 2 (Sound Shaping Exercise)
                                                • This exercise was incredibly captivating, and it allowed me to acquire a valuable new skill in using Adobe Audition. Even though I only applied the sound effects, I feel satisfied with the outcome. I must commend our lecturers for their patient guidance throughout the process, ensuring that everyone had the opportunity to grasp this technique. I am genuinely grateful for their support and dedication to facilitating our learning experience.
