Project 2A: Production Shoot
In this exercise, we were required to shoot the shots that our lecturer provided and edit them interestingly. The production of this video is working in the group that Mr. Martin has separated, after shooting all the footage we need to edit individually. I have been conducted in group 3 and there are at least 10 members for each group.

These are my group members and the last right column has remarked our crew section, as a result, I have been delving into local sound. Actually, my first selection is D.O.P which is also the camera assistant, but after the arrangement, we only need to have 2 D.O.P so I just choose another one.

Initially, I was confused about what I needed to do as a local sound. I did search online and found out that maybe local sound also an interesting job and I do like have a try.

EEAAO Storyboard
Actually, in this exercise, we will be shooting the footage picked from the film "Everything Everywhere All At Once". There are a total of 4 scenes and 7 shots for this exercise, and my group has decided to take shooting in the class and not go outside. It will be easier to complete our shooting.

Pre-Production
Following the pre-production that was sent by Mr. Martin, as a local sound assistant I only need to purchase the Double-A Energizer for the use of the sound recording mic.

Our lovely producer has helped us to separate the good takes and the bad shots. She has made my job easier and I really appreciate her. After that, I download all the good takes and the audio also to start editing the video.

Reference Trailer
Actually, I was a bit confused about how to edit this video as a trailer, so I decided to find some references on YouTube and learn their editing style. These are the references that I used for:
These two trailers are interesting, they use a lot of transitions and stuck points to create the trailer. Since my footage is only 7 shots, I didn't expect that I could edit a video like this, but I also tried my best to make it interesting.

Post-Production Editing
I first import all the video and audio into Premiere Pro and arrange it in the right order, after that I start to cut off the 'action' and 'cut' sound in the video. After I arranged everything, the video seemed a bit boring, and I mentioned that Mr. Martin asked us not only editing follow the storyboard, and try to make it more interesting. Thus, looking back at my references, I did add some additional videos and images that commonly appear in the trailer.

Besides, I also used a lot of video transition effects between the footage, which will make it more smoother for every changing shot. The effects that I used are dip to black, additive dissolve, cr chroma leaks, etc.

Color Correction
Based on the tutorial provided by Mr Martin, we need to include these color grades in each shot.
  • Teal & Orange
  • Bluish (cold)
  • Greenish (cold)
  • Brownish (warm)
  • Desaturation, 50%-70%
  • B & W, High Contrast.
But I was confused at the time, I hadn't heard about that, so I only applied the teal and orange color grade to every shot. After I sent it to our lecturer, he asked me if I had done the wrong one and if the video was not good enough. I thus refined it after this.

After the final refinement and applying color grade, my video was done and I think that it is really interesting.

Project 2B: Insta/TikTok Video
For this task, we need to create our own Instagram or TikTok video based on a creative idea. The first step is to jot down our ideas on the slide provided by Mr. Martin.

Initially, I planned to showcase fragments of my Shanghai trip, but since Mr. Martin wants us to appear in the video and my Shanghai photos are mostly landscapes, I had to come up with a new concept.

Finally, I decided to create a video inspired by the popular singing challenges people do while driving. I wanted to add my own twist to it, so after researching some references, I settled on making a vlog. The video will end with me singing my favorite song.

This is my idea proposal:

Shooting
While shooting the footage, I enlisted my roommate's help to hold the camera for shots that required tracking movement, which I couldn't do alone.

I used my roommate's camera instead of my phone for better clarity. However, since the filming took place in a car park with limited lighting, the videos turned out a bit darker. I plan to adjust the brightness during editing.

Editing
In this section, we need to edit the final video using 'Clip Cut' instead of Premiere Pro. This is because Clip Cut allows us to easily add effects and provides a greater variety of source materials. To start the editing process, I first import all the footage into the app.
Figure 1.31 Editing The Video
Next, I adjust the brightness of the darker footage and tweak the color of the second half. Since the footage of me singing was shot on my phone and is not very clear, I used Clip Cut's built-in function to enhance its clarity.

Figure 1.35 Adding Text for The Video
After adjusting the picture, the video still seemed a bit dull. To make it more engaging, I decided to add some text against a pure black background. This addition will also serve as a smoother transition between the footage of my arrival home and the subsequent singing segment.
Figure 1.36 Adding the Transition Picture
Figure 1.37 Adding the Transition Picture
For the first three clips, which show me walking to my car, closing the car door, and starting the music, I muted the original sound of the footage because it was too noisy. Instead, I added sound effects from Clip Cut to enhance the video be more interesting. The music for 'Atlantis' was sourced from YouTube and converted to MP3.

At the end of the video, I added the appearance of special effects on the footage and the original sound as well.

Final Refinement
I did like to add the songs' names for each scene if it is impossible to make it not too boring.

FEEDBACK

Week 7
Mr. Martin mentions the reminder for production color correction, please apply all color grading mentioned below at different shots and also make the editing more interesting.

REFLECTION

Task 2A: Production Shooting
I really appreciate the teamwork with my wonderful group members. Although this was our first time working together, we collaborated exceptionally well. We divided the tasks fairly among us, and each member did their best, allowing us to complete the project successfully. The production process was fun and filled with laughter. While I originally wanted to work as a camera assistant, I also gained experience in handling local sound work. One valuable skill I learned during this exercise was color correction, which I found fascinating while editing the video. Usually, I use my phone for photo adjustments, but this was my first time using a laptop for similar tasks. I now have a better understanding of Premiere Pro's functionalities.

Task 2B: Insta/TikTok Video
This has been the most interesting and enjoyable task for me. Since it was my first time shooting an Insta/TikTok video, I found myself deeply engaged in the production process. Although my final video may not be perfect, the experience of creating it was incredibly rewarding. Additionally, using 'Clip Cut' for video editing provided me with a great learning experience. I learned how to adjust video filters, add funny sound effects, and speed up the video. Moreover, I had fun exploring professional features such as enhancing video clarity and reducing noise. It was quite an interesting experience overall.
